Semantics of English (6464)

This course introduces the study of formal meaning in linguistics by discussing the variety of meanings that words and utterances can encode. It attempts to describe and understand the nature and meaning of English words, phrases, and sentences by analyzing language semantics. It also introduces students to the complex issues of meaning on the level of lexemes or words, on the paradigmatic level, or the vocabulary structure, and to the relationship between semantics and syntax, and semantics and pragmatics.
