Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Parasitology (Lecture)
This course focus on studying medically important microorganisms and parasites by means of diseases by body system approach. The introductory part gives an overview of the brief history and recent developments in Microbiology that are important in the pharmaceutical industry. Basic concepts on microbial cell structure, microbial growth and control, the principle of disease and epidemiology, and basic immunology were also introduced. Characteristics of other microbes such as fungi, viruses, prions, helminths, and protozoans are also covered in this course. Discussions of the diseases by body system are given at the latter part of the course with an emphasis on chemotherapy and basic microbial methods for the etiologic agents’ potential diagnosis.
