CICM in Action: Environmental Protection Management (Disaster Risk Reduction Management)

This course provides an interdisciplinary understanding of disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) integrated and interfaith sharing and dialogue as essential components of building resilient and inclusive communities. It explores the principles, frameworks, and practices of disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery, with emphasis on community-based approaches and participatory governance.

The course also highlights the role of spirituality and diverse religious traditions in shaping people’s responses to disasters. Through structured interfaith dialogue, students are guided to develop mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration among different belief systems, recognizing the value of faith-based organizations in disaster response and peacebuilding.

Learning experiences include lectures, case studies, simulations, and participation in DRRM-related seminars, workshops, and community engagements, and interfaith sharing/dialogue organizing. Students are expected to synthesize insights from these activities to design inclusive, culturally sensitive, and sustainable DRRM strategies.

By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to contribute effectively to disaster resilience efforts and to promote interfaith cooperation for social cohesion and sustainable development.
