This course deals with the earth systems composed of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere and biosphere. It includes the topics on the fundamentals of physical and historical geology. Interfacing of geologic cycles that cause weathering, erosion, soil formation, mineral formation, and mass movement are emphasized. The course also includes tracing of geologic history, plate tectonics, seafloor movement, orogenesis, volcanism, and seismology. Issues concerning the exploration, utilization, and conservation of mineral resources are also dealt with.
