Trend and Issues in Social Studies
Ed. Soc. Stud 133, Trends and Issues in Social Studies is a 3 – unit course which is a general survey on various trends and issues in the study of the course. It is the study and analysis of current themes in education that influence strongly the teaching of social studies to become more civic competent such as indigenous peoples’ rights, population studies, environmental issues and concerns, peace education and human rights, mother-tongue-based - multilingual education and voter’s education cognizant with local, national and global contexts, which are anchored on the National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies. Such Trends and Issues must be responsive and relevant to the changing signs of the times, forming students to become creative and innovative, and whose perspective and attitudes are geared towards integral human development which is pro-life, pro-Mary and pro-Christ.
