Social Change and Development Perspectives
Social change is the alteration of mechanisms within the social structure, characterized by changes in cultural symbols, rules of behavior, social organizations or value system.
Development, on the other hand, usually refers to economic progress, however it can apply to political, social, and technological progress as well. These various sectors of society are so intertwined that it is difficult to nearly separate them. Development in all these sectors is governed by the same principles and laws, and therefore the term applies uniformly.
The aim of this course is to analyze the dominant sociological and economic theories related to social change and social development and apply their relevance and impact on developing countries in general and to the Social Work profession in particular.
