Journalism Principles and Practices
This course discusses the rudiments of journalism principles and practices. It introduces the learners to the theory and practice of newswriting and feature writing, which are basic writing endeavors in journalism. The course tackles the different elements of news, their characteristics and uses and the most practical ways of writing them. The subject further deals with the ideals of newswriting with special emphasis on the types of news specializations. The scope and responsibilities of journalism work, including an introduction of the basic skills required, are also incorporated. It also undertakes the functions, principles and standards of journalism, problems and techniques of reporting, and types of news and feature.
