Learners with Emotional, Behavioral, Language and Communication Disabilities

This course focuses on gaining deeper understanding of the nature and learning characteristics of learners with emotional, behavioral, language and communication disabilities. It considers the principles of managing learners with the identified disabilities. It takes pre-service teachers in considering the principles of applied behavior analysis and other major approaches for managing and changing behavior and preventing inappropriate behaviors in the classroom.

Moreover, this course provides the pre-service teachers the knowledge and skills required to assess and remediate communication and language impairments in learners. The content will include current literature concerning pertinent issues involved in understanding communication and language disability, assessment and intervention, instruction in language sample collection and analysis and the critical review skills required to assess the value and application of emerging practices in this area.
