Psy 122 Developmental Psychology

Course Description

This course is designed to study the developmental process over the life span, from prenatal to death. Various theories and stages of development are presented.

Course Objective

This course is intended to:

1. Introduce students to the major developmental theories.

2. Familiarise students with the life span development and psychopathology.

Specific Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the course,the student should be able to:

1. Define developmental psychology and identify basic issues in this field of study.

2. identify major components of the various theories of developmental psychology.

3.Describe physical,cognitive and psychosocial development through the life span.

4. Identify the etiological factors involved in the development of child and adolescent disorders.

5. Explain possible links between developmental delays and advances in various childhood disorders.

Methodology

The format of the course will consist of lectures, class discussions, case studies,assignments, reporting,quizzes and exams.
