COURSE SUMMARY


RATIONALE

The course deals with the theories and principles in pharmacy calculation as applied in traditional and specialized practice settings and within operational and research areas in pharmacy practice.

FOCUS

This course focuses on the fundamentals of pharmaceutical calculations and techniques that includes system of measurements, expression of concentrations, calculation of doses, density, specific gravity, and specific volume applied in the practice of pharmacy. 

OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the students are expected to:

  • Demonstrate mastery of the different systems of weights and measures in pharmacy practice.
  • Interpret prescription and medication orders.
  • Solve problems related to compounding and dispensing of drugs.
  • Perform laboratory techniques pertinent to the practice of pharmacy with accuracy and precision; and
  • Work independently and diligently manifesting the values of analytical thinking, scientific discipline, honesty, and patience.
