Study of Syntax (Grammar)

The course is a principled approach to the study of English grammar using both the descriptivist and the prescriptivist points of view in describing and explaining linguistics phenomena, including the changes happening in the English language in the 20^th century. Students are expected to analyze the grammatical structures of texts and to explore research-based theories, approaches, and principles in the study of syntax . The graduate students are expected to critically analyze research-based articles related to syntax/grammar and to write a review of related literature in syntax/grammar as a stand-alone project.
