Teaching of Speaking and Listening

This course covers the nature, perspectives, theories, and principles related to listening and speaking and applying such theories/principles to listening and speaking and the teaching of listening and speaking. It is aimed at acquainting or re-orienting teachers with the important aspects of listening and speaking instruction and at presenting much practical information or research-based information about the process of teaching listening and speaking to affirm or redirect existing practices of language teachers who are expected to be equipped with knowledge, principles, and skills that enable them to adapt/develop strategies to ensure optimum development of their students’ listening and speaking. The students are expected to critique current research-based articles on teaching speaking and listening, design and demonstrate lessons exemplifying current pedagogical methods, strategies, and techniques in teaching speaking and listening, and write publishable research on listening and speaking.
