Course Description
This course provides physics education students with advanced mathematical techniques for understanding and teaching physics. Topics include linear algebra, coordinate systems, transcendental functions, conic sections, differential and integral calculus, vector algebra, and vector calculus.
Course Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, the physics education student will have
1. developed an understanding of matrices, determinants, transcendental functions, conic sections, coordinate systems, differential and integral calculus, vector algebra, and vector calculus;
2. enhanced his mathematical skills in understanding physics phenomena;
3. possessed the required competency in deriving mathematical expressions which explain physical situations;
4. developed positive attitude towards mathematics as an important tool in understanding physics phenomena;
5. identified and described applications of mathematics on physics other than discussed in class; and
6. conducted a research involving use of mathematics in physics.
