This course examines the linguistic, sociolinguistic, ideological and other perspectives involved in the paradigm shifts made in language teaching and learning. It reviews the theoretical underpinnings and developments in Second Language Teaching (SLT) as it presents historically the different approaches, methods, strategies and techniques. It presents language issues and trends that help explain natural phenomena in SLT.
