This course focuses on taxonomy, phenetics, phylogenetics and bioinformatics. It encompasses classification and identification of species and acquaints the students with the basic principles and methods of cladistic analysis.
Fieldwork activities include sampling and collection of organisms of interests for taxonomic classification and identification. Laboratory activities include morphological and molecular characterization and the construction of cladograms with the use of applicable softwares. A research output that covers taxonomy, phenetics, phylogenetic analysis and the use of bioinformatics is required.
