Management of Cooperatives
This course is designed to orient the graduate students on the principles, concepts and practices of cooperativism. The course starts with the theories as well as the history of the cooperative movement throughout the world and in the Philippines in order to determine the realistic beginning of cooperative movement. The main discussions are on the organization and management of cooperatives, their general and specific objectives and purposes as well as the organizational structure of the different types of cooperatives.Discussion also covers legal provisions for cooperatives in the Philippines including the special provisions for special types of cooperatives. and accounting, auditing, and internal control system, which are deemed important to assure success in running a cooperative. Cooperatives , the global economy and APEX organization of the cooperatives and rural financing institutions are also covered. The salient features of RA 9520, an act amending RA 6938 (Cooperative Code of the Philippines) , and RA 6939 (The law that created the cooperative development authority) are also explained. Finally, the most important part of the course is the analysis of the problems and issues that control the development and improvement of cooperatives in our country and to identify some of their possible solutions.
