This course is designed to provide graduate students with principles underlying the skills in teaching as well as curriculum development in the social studies. The course emphasizes evidence-based strategies and approaches in teaching citizenship, and trends in teaching methods of social and multicultural education. This course also introduces the history and educational theories that are related to the nature of social studies. Graduate students are expected to conduct an intervention study about a particular social studies class, and a documentation of their application of the methods teaching social studies.
