LIS 203 - Advanced Collection Management

Course Description
This course deals with the selection and acquisition of library materials, the strategies
and techniques in acquiring low-cost library resources, evaluation of the library collection using
the different library standards and collection analysis techniques. It is focused on making
collection management action plan; collection development policy manual.

Course Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, the student is expected to:
1. demonstrate an enhanced ability to articulate ideas about the cycle of collection
development and its objectives, philosophies, standards and policies.
2. evaluate their library collection and serves as a bases for creating collection
development policy manual of their own library.
3. critically evaluate an existing collection development plan and give a realistic
suggestion to improve the collection development plan of their library
4. formulate policies such as collection development, preservation/conservation or
weeding.
5. to create a dynamic collection development policy manual applicable to their own
library.
