COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course aims to educate the students in the essential research tools and skills that will be needed as to perform as managers in the tourism and hospitality industry. This course will introduce the research process: from design, data collection, hypothesis testing, to reporting; featuring econometrics and other quantitative applications in business research; and research on a topic related to the tourism and/or hospitality industry. The student shall undertake a study on a topic of his/her own choice through which he/she can develop the necessary skills of planning, researching, reporting as well as the ability for writing a thesis. After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
(1) Develop an understanding and appreciation of research and the need for research, not only in tourism and hospitality, but also applicable to numerous other fields.
(2) Develop knowledge and skills in designing and carrying out research projects.
(3) Experience valuable “real-life” lessons.

Research Methodology is a common course among the MAED, MAT, and MST programs. It deals with the different aspects of the quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research designs. The core is the preparation of a proposal that may become acceptable and defended in Thesis Writing 1.
- Teacher: DOMINGA VALTORIBIO
- Enrolled students: 32
- Teacher: DARWIN DON DACLES
- Enrolled students: 25
This course offers an overview of research methodology including basic concepts employed in quantitative, qualitative and mixed research methods as they apply to the higher education. It provides a macroperspective of the methods associated with conducting scholarly research as students are expected to craft a research proposal applicable to their field.
- Teacher: ZAYDA ASUNCION

This course provides students with an in-depth knowledge and skills in research writing and conduct of research activities following the self-directed learning and learner-centered philosophies of education. It engages students with activity-laden, leisure-writing, gradual and self-experiential processes. At the end of the course, it is expected that the students submit a manuscript of the proposal papers in the realm of education, particularly in their field of discipline.

Course Summary: Research Methodology for Undergraduate Thesis Writing
This course is designed to equip beginning researchers - especially undergraduate students - with the essential skills and knowledge needed to conduct academic research and prepare a thesis. Structured around eight comprehensive modules, the course covers the nature and purpose of research, problem formulation, thesis structure, literature review writing using APA 7th edition format, research methodology, qualitative and quantitative research approaches, data sources and sampling techniques, and the development of research instruments.
Each module integrates practical activities to reinforce learning and guide students through the research process, from conceptualization to proposal preparation. Updated to reflect current academic standards, the course includes modern sources, sample excerpts from actual research works, and institutionally aligned practices.
This is not a statistics course, but a hands-on methodology guide that supports both instructors and students in navigating the challenges of academic research. Developed by experienced mentors and research practitioners, the course aims to bridge gaps in understanding and empower students to produce well-structured, proposal-ready research manuscripts.
